Built Up Roofing
What are Built-up Roofs?
These roofs
have been the traditional approach to flat commercial or industrial
roofing in North America for the last 150 years. Multiple layers of
felt or glass plies with inter ply mopping of asphalt are assembled
in the field to "build up" a finished roof assembly. A heavy application
of asphalt which is then covered with gravel is the typical finishing
surface to these assemblies, primarily for protection purposes. These
roof assemblies have a good life expectancy, normally in the range of
20 to 25 years.
In the
past 30 years a number of different roofing systems have come and most
have gone. Although there are many other choices available today, BUR
is still arguably the best roofing system for commercial / industrial
needs. BUR is the most durable roofing system available. A new BUR roof
is essentially bullet proof and has stood the test of time and is still
# 1.
